Patch 8.1 Notes: Community Event Updates

Hi everyone! My name is Stephen McGregor and I’m the Community Developer here at GLITCH. You’ve probably seen me around at one of the many events we have had over the years but this is my first official news post! Last year, over 2,500 players and makers made it out to events like PLAY/TEST, Co-Op Talk, Gaymer Space, and VR Night.

I’m excited to talk about events coming up in the new year, but first I want to give some context as to what’s new in 2019.

REFINING GOALS

In 2018, our goals for the community events were as follows:

  1. Empower and support emerging community leaders.
  2. Focus on building relationships between game makers.
  3. Help makers connect to new player audiences.

We were successful in achieving these goals but are looking to further refine the vision for 2019 and build programming that will support these goals:

  1. Spark the development of more games in Minnesota.
  2. Help community members find collaborators for game making.
  3. Help makers connect to new player audiences.

So what are the plans for community events moving forward? Well, we’re changing gears a bit to fall in line with these new goals.

UPDATES INCOMING

  1. RETIRING EVENTS – We’re retiring the following community events: Co-Op Talk, Dungeons and Dragons Thursdays, VR Night, Tabletop Tour, and Gaymer Space.
  2. PLAY/TEST Gets an Upgrade – We’re doubling down on PLAY/TEST to make it bigger and better than before by moving it to the first Friday of each month, beginning in March! We’re also exploring opportunities to expand the event to different locations both in Minneapolis and Saint Paul but more on that later.
  3. FIRST FREE FRIDAY CO-WORKING – FFF will be happening at GlitchHQ on the first Friday of each month (the day of PLAY/TEST!) and kicking off in March. Seats are extremely limited, so be sure to register early. Like, right now!
  4. MOAR CO-WORKING – We’re currently exploring quarterly co-working opportunities on Saturdays that may or may not include more mini game jams. More on this coming soon.

Thank you to everyone who has come out to community events since they launched in 2013 and also for our wonderful  organizers for sharing their time and expertise with attendees. If you have any thoughts or questions, don’t hesitate to reach out to me at Stephen[at]glitch.mn or drop me a DM in our Discord channel.
